Quinnipiac incoming freshman Kellen Jones was selected with the 22nd pick of the seventh round by Edmonton Oilers, making him the 202nd player taken, in the 2010 National Hockey League Entry Draft. Jones is set to attend Quinnipiac in the fall following a stellar career with the Vernon Vipers of the British Columbia Hockey League, where he played alongside twin brother, Connor, who is also attending Quinnipiac.

Jones was one of four players to be drafted from the BCHL this season. Also taken from the British Columbia league were Penticton's Beau Bennett (Pittsburgh, 1st Round, 20th pick) and Isaac MacLeod (San Jose, 5th Round, 16th pick) as well as Alberni Valley's Mark MacMillan (Montreal, 4th Round, 23rd pick). Jones is the fifth player drafted before coming to Quinnipiac, joining Ben Blais (New York Islanders, 1998, 9th Round), John Doherty (Toronto Maple Leafs, 2003, 2nd Round), Dan Travis (Florida Panthers, 2003, 5th Round) and Pat McGann (Dallas Stars, 2005, 7th Round).

This past season, Jones, a left wing, totaled 12 goals and 41 assists for 53 points, helping the Vipers to their sixth Coupe RBC National Championship. Jones was second on the team with 19 points, five goals and a team-best 14 assists, during the BCHL Playoffs last season. Jones scored the Vipers' second goal in an 8-1 win against the Dauphin Kings for the RBC Cup.

In 2009, Jones scored a career-best 15 goals while assisting on 37 more for 52 career points, while in 2008 he finished the year with 12 goals and career-highs in assists (55) and points (67).

The Vernon Vipers would like to congratulate Kellen Jones on being selected in the 2010 NHL Draft. He was one of the hardest working players in the BCHL and wish him and his brother Conner success at Quinnipiac, the NHL and all their future endeavors.
