Vipers in the Community

Recognizing our position as a community leader and role model, the Vipers are creating a pro-active community program called the “The Heart of Vernon”.

The program focuses its efforts on providing support to children in the community so they may lead quality lives and develop into contributing members of society.

Through player appearances, team-sponsored events and other fund raising activities, the Vipers also raise thousands of dollars annually for various organizations in our community.

Initiatives include:

• Vernon Womans Transistion House Society Silent Auction
• Food Drive December. All food being donated to the Salvation Army
• GOALS! Program
• Cops For Kids Fundraiser. All proceeds stay in Vernon and goes to local Children with special needs.
• Annual Teddy Bear Toss. Fans are encouraged to bring suitable stuffed toys to toss on the ice when the Vipers score their 1st goal. All stuffed toys are donated to the KISS FM Santa’s Toy Fund.
• GOALS! Program Granting youth Opportunities to Advance Learn and Succeed. The Vipers, working with businesses, are committed to ensuring the success of the children in our community. Throughout the season, players visit elementary classrooms to assist teachers in motivating and encouraging students to learn and succeed. Also, for every goal scored by the Vipers at home games, sponsors will donate money to the GOALS! Program to be used by schools in need for various projects.
• 50-50 at our games is run by non-profit organizations to raise funds for worthwhile causes in our community. 50-50 funds are being raised by:
• Okanagan College has the opportunity to raise $10,000 for scholarships in our community, based on the need of the recipient.
• Greater Vernon Minor Hockey GVMHA will run a number of 50-50’s at our games to complete a successful relationship with minor hockey in our community.
• Cops for Kids Proceeds to the Vernon Professional Firefighter Burn Fund.
• Musclular Dystrophy
• Vernon Fire Fighters Burn Fund
• Silver Star Rotary
• BC Children's Hospital

• Terry Fox Foundation On opening night the Vipers have participated in the Great Canadian Head Shave to raise money for cancer. ALL Vipers take part in the Terry Fox Fun in September.
• Cops for Kids The Vipers have entered into a program with the local RCMP detachment to try and keep kids off the streets and in a safe environment …. at a Viper hockey game.
